Stainless Steel 304h Sheets General Properties:

Stainless Steel Sheet 304 Hard is a T-300 series stainless steel austenitic, which has a minimum of 18% chromium and 8% nickel with a maximum of 0.08% carbon. It is the standard “18/8 stainless” that is commonly found in pans and cooking tools.

Stainless Steel Sheet 304 Hard is the most versatile and widely used alloy in the stainless steel family. It may be used for a wide variety of home and commercial applications and exhibits excellent corrosion resistance has a high ease of fabrication, outstanding formability, and tremendous strength. The austenitic stainless steels are also considered to be the most weldable of the high-alloy steels and can be welded by all fusion and resistance welding processes. Due to its controlled carbon content of 0.04 to 0.10, Alloy 304H provides improved high-temperature strength when exposed to temperatures above 800oF. Alloy 304H also has a greater short term and long term creeps strength than Alloy 304L at temperatures above 500oC and is more resistant to sensitization than Stainless Steel Sheet 304L.

Stainless Steel 316 Sheets General Properties:

Stainless Steel Sheets 316 is molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel. The higher nickel and molybdenum content in this grade allows it to demonstrate better overall corrosion resistant properties than 304, especially with regard to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments. In addition, Stainless Steel Sheets 316 provides excellent elevated temperature tensile, creep and stress-rupture strengths, as well as outstanding formability and weldability. 316L is the lower carbon version of 316 and is immune from sensitisation; therefore, it is very frequently used in heavy gauge welded components.

Stainless Steel 316 Sheets Corrosion Resistance:
  • Generally more resistant than 304 in range of atmospheric environments and many corrosive media due to the increased chromium and molybdenum content.
  • Subject to pitting and crevice corrosion in warm chloride environments, and to stress corrosion cracking above about 122°F (50°C).
  • Considered resistant to potable water with up to about 1000mg/L chlorides at ambient temperatures, reducing to about 500mg/L at
    140°F (60°C).
  • Usually regarded as the “marine grade stainless steel” – but is not resistant to warm sea water.

Stainless Steel 316 Sheets Heat Resistance:
  • Good oxidation resistance in intermittent service to 1600°F (870°C) and in continuous service to 1700°F (925°C)
  • Grade 316L is more resistant to carbide precipitation.

Stainless Steel 316 Sheets Welding Characteristics:
  • Excellent weldability by all standard fusion methods, both with and without filler metals.
  • Heavy welded sections in Grade 316 require post-weld annealing for maximum corrosion resistance, this is not required for grade 316L.

Stainless Steel 316 Sheets Heat Treatment:
  • Annealing temperature range is 1900 to 2100°F (1038 to 1149°C).
  • Cannot be hardened by heat treatment.
  • Special consideration is needed to compensate for a higher coefficient of thermal expansion to avoid warping and distortion.

Stainless Steel 321 Sheets General Properties:

Stainless Steel Sheets 321 (UNS S32100) is a titanium stabilized austenitic stainless steel with good general corrosion resistance. It has excellent resistance to intergranular corrosion after exposure to temperatures in the chromium carbide precipitation range of 800 – 1500°F (427 – 816°C). The alloy resists oxidation to 1500°F (816°C) and has higher creep and stress rupture properties than alloys 304 and 304L. It also possesses good low-temperature toughness.


Alloy 321H (UNS S 32109) is the higher carbon (0.04 – 0.10) version of the alloy. It was developed for enhanced creep resistance and for higher strength at temperatures above 1000oF (537°C). In most instances, the carbon content of the plate enables dual certification.

Stainless Steel Sheets 32 cannot be hardened by heat treatment, only by cold working. It can be easily welded and processed by standard shop fabrication practices.
